“You will always be lucky if you know how to make friends with strange cats.” ~ Proverb
The cat’s out of the bag…we had a fabulous time catching up last week when some of our most favorite people arrived in Tokyo, world renowned…yes, wait for it… CAT photographer Helmi Flick and her husband Ken “The Wrangler”.
It’s an incredible kind of poetry watching the Texas-based duo work, as they travel the world and criss-cross The States taking the most amazing photos of all things feline. Who knew there were so many breeds, so many characters and so many stories? A very different world for us. Ken with his very impressive collection of teases (we totally want that duck-calling one for our purposes) poses the kitties then Helmi waits for the reaction and gets those signature shots, with her beautiful style, color and flair. While we certainly have very different styles of photography, Helmi has been a very giving mentor for many years and, with Ken, a huge supporter. So it was just a blast hanging out for a week, talking shop, cat-napping, avoiding catastrophe. Just such special people. There were culinary adventures, shopping, sights and sounds, the possibility of a visit to a cat cafe next time. And we now know without any doubt that Oriental Shorthairs are not the most agreeable models. See, we did pay attention. Trace is a fan of the ones with the floppy ears…and I just love anything fluffy… We absolutely cannot wait to see you both again very soon. Stateside with the Slicks or somewhere international. Thanks for The Memories…When the dawn comes tonight will be a memory too…And the new day will begin. End of all Cat and Musical references…for today.
Here are some of Helmi’s fabulous cat photographs from the CFA Ruban D’or Chat Fanciers Cat Show, Tokyo, November 13 & 14.
