“The loving are the daring.” ~ Bayard Taylor
It was a dramatic beginning to the gorgeous ending of the start of their life together…Still with us??? Today is all about making decisions, living life in the moment and living it out loud and in love. And of course it’s preferable if your backdrop happens to be the platform of the Shinkansen Tracks in Kobe where it all unfolds. Because if you’re going to propose, after an ultimatum, you’d better be ready to jump the ticket gates, get down on one knee and go for it. And he did. And we were completely sold on them from the very first meeting, a few months ago in Tokyo. Over massive latte bowls. We always ask our couples how they met, how the proposal happened, getting to know them and they way the work together. So when we heard this story and their amazing wedding plans it was a given we would LOVE to be involved. It was a fairytale from beginning to end, not without twists and turns, of course, and a fabulous cast of characters and the most divine accessories.
And so for the Engagement Session we just had to do it where it all started…in Kobe…on the tracks…a re-enactment and then a photo story all-over town.
We love it when our clients get us and know what they are looking for. And it’s easily reciprocal. The experience becomes even more natural and real and there is a synergy and true understanding and respect of the creative process. If anyone should understand this and the pursuit of quality then they would. Quality is key after all – to anyone running their own business. While our businesses might be worlds apart in some ways, it is right on par in others. The pursuit of excellence, of beauty, of quality, of emotion … all colliding – their world – and ours. It was after the station we headed to their company office – Andy Müller – where they spend their days and life immersed in the opulent world of Pearls. And when we say pearls we mean the world’s BIGGEST pearls. I think at one point I had the world’s largest black pearl necklace on…don’t even ask the wholesale price…there were A LOT of zeros…Goodness…we LOVE our job. Watching the artisans at work, the designs and the creative process, really made me think of the weeks and sometimes months worth of design process that Trace and I put into creating a complete wedding collection from start to finish. A labour of love. Not many people understand the hours that go into this behind the scenes process. But we were seeing it all done here with pearls. And then realizing how closely aligned our businesses really were. Our passion and theirs. What an amazing afternoon. So, yes it was hard to leave. And almost as hard to get off the antique diving helmet that was donned for the sake of a good photo op. Now that would have been a story for the ages if it hadn’t come off and a trip to the ER ensued. But it came off.
And there was a lot of laughter and then it was time to see how they live, meet the family, live up the Kobe life in the mountains overlooking the city below. A hand-made Swiss Chalet out the back, with endlessly surprising details. Finished with your tools? Then how about some wine? Scroll down…you’ll get it. Now that’s a DIY project. It was a joy to photograph them at home. Really, at home. With the BBQ fired up and a million moments in between. Just the perfect start to the celebrations and just so them. With just a quick stop and possibly some trespassing to get the night skyline night shot at the end. We figured that if the Yakuza cars were there, then we could be too. And it was worth it. The first finale of many…and so now on with the show…
