“Our birthdays are feathers in the broad wing of time.” – Jean Paul

A little break from our beautiful world of weddings to feature another magnificent kind of milestone – an extraordinary Bat Mitzvah celebration–also from our whirlwind month that was October… We had been soooooo waiting for this… more than a year in the planning with this truly beautiful family. The details – all those incredible details, meticulously handcrafted, created & curated were remarkable. And made perfectly sure that each guest was so warmly welcomed & truly part of this magical day…. We started our coverage right from the beginning… the getting ready, the giddiness, the nerves & the last minute practice at home before the moving service & ceremony at the Synagogue. There were tears & endless love for milestones reached & new ones just around the corner…and the best way to celebrate …with an epic party at the Tokyo American Club like no other…The Hora absolutely a highlight, the impeccable TAC service, the birthday cake, that chair, simply amazing people & a story some 13 years in the making…Thank you so much for an extraordinary experience…Mazel Mazel Mazel Tov!! “I love Paris when it sizzles.”  ~ Cole Porter

We’ll take Paris anytime. Especially if it means just the sweetest time with another family we’ve had the pleasure to connect with via this amazing Tokyo global network. Paris in the summer, on an epically hot day could have equaled tres meltdown. But non, non, non. It was magnifique and a story we had been so waiting for. Then throw in that gorgeous bow-tie, red, white & blue, Evian face spritzer (to cool us all down…merci mum!!!), that iconic tower in the background and just the most doting, lovely parents we could ever meet. And, well Paris in the summertime was a dream…and we cannot wait for an encore… Read more

“San Francisco is poetry. Even the hills rhyme.” ~ Pat Montandon

The end of the year hurtles towards us while we rewind a bit today, back San Francisco way…high on a hill with a stunning view, in an all-time favorite city with a very special family we have this Tokyo grapevine to thank for. Again. And Again. Our second time to photograph them in this, the City by the Bay. This time in and around their beautiful, designer dream home. Such a warm, happy welcome. Outside & later inside. With that view, just up the path. On Kite Hill. And some quite fabulous gale force wind to contend. A reunion with Tanner, a very favorite canine family member and it was a session to remember…With some lovely & cozy moments indoors at the end, with books and a send off in Dad’s shoes… Time (and that wind) stand still for a while, defiant in the face of the unrelenting pace of life. 6 months on and we are right back in San Fran. “London goes beyond any boundary or convention. It contains every wish or word ever spoken, every action or gesture ever made, every harsh or noble statement ever expressed. It is illimitable. It is Infinite London.” ~ Peter Ackroyd

Tally Ho Tuesday….and we’re back to London. A wonderful revisit this summer with a treasured Italian family we connected with in Tokyo, when they were 3. Now they are 4 and based in Copenhagen. A truly international affair. So when our London dates opened we were beyond thrilled they would travel to see us, to collide in one of the worlds’ greatest cities for another chapter in their extended family story. It was such a highlight to see them all and their gorgeous new addition. We had typical English weather…rain, wind, clouds & finally sunshine. All in a matter of minutes. With those stunning, iconic backdrops it all culminated in a beautiful blur of a morning together, soaking in life. Just like the poster said…this is London. And this is so them. Read more

“By seeing London, I have seen as much of life as the world can show”. ~  Samuel Johnson

London. London. This past summer we just had the best time, during a fleeting visit, in this most grand of cities. There’s nowhere quite like it and the temptation to spend some serious time there is tantalizing. The icons, the people, the cabs, the double-deckers, the fish & chips, the high teas, the shopping, the photo ops & the spectacular weather (truly…) It was heaven. And then there are the icons, the quaint cobbled backstreets, the history, the traditions and the glorious vistas. None more so than much-loved Kew Gardens, which was our beautiful setting for this family session. At the end of the week we collided amid avenues of classic trees, quintessential English roses and a flurry of energy to be part of this fabulous family story. It was unbridled joy from start to finish.  We just tried to keep up…An overture that culminated in a wonderful experience with just the loveliest of people, for which we thankthankthank our incredible Tokyo grapevine…And on with the Kew Gardens show… Read more

“How beautifully leaves grow old.  How full of light and color are their last days.”  ~ John Burroughs

More Autumn moments today from this gorgeous family, and we are so loving our year together. This one from late last year with Fall’s foliage the dazzling backdrop, in one of Tokyo’s most treasured parks, Shinjuku Gyoen. But the stunning leaves had nothing on the joy of photographing this trio. A joy from start to finish. We’ve had 2 more sessions since then with another on the way. The ebb & flow of the seasons telling their story. And we’ve loved each and every one. Beautifully different, all telling a slice of life. How it was, how it is, how it will be. Read more
